We, Poriazi Family, do not forget our roots.Our company is the oldest organized bakery on the island which provides to date not only bread, but rusks and traditional pasta, all made from grains and barley of Lemnos.Our goal, in each case, is the promotion of the delicious heritage of the island through growing products related to the cultural tradition of our homeland, but prepared according to modern means and specifications.
In this context, in the "Poriazi-Lemnos Family", in the last 6 years where the difficulties in the market are increasing, we are coming closer in practice to our vision and the realization of our goals by creating two new production lines and expanding our network of partners. We invested in equipment, for the production of traditional pasta, but also in the standardization of Lemnos flour of our own production, while at the same time we increased the points of sale of our products in Greece.
On our trip, since 2009, we are accompanied by the Department of Food Science and Nutrition of the University of the Aegean which takes care of our fruitful problems and gives us the necessary stimuli for our next steps. However,thetime has come for our cooperation to expand, and now more targeted than ever, with method andhard work, we aim to improve our products even more utilizing raw materials of the island which we think that they have not yet emerged.
The project with the acronym "NewCracker" is classified in intervention programs for business partnerships with research organizations (university) under the auspices of the OPCE of the Ministry of Development and Investment, and is expected to last 30 months with a total budget of 447,754.38€,which is distributed between the university and company to promote laboratory experimental and pilot tests. Nationwide~200 projects were approved out of a total of>2000.
In this effort we are grateful for our collaboration with the team of the University, which will be coordinated by Associate Professor Mr. Costas Gatzionis, and will be composed of researchers specializing in the study, measurement and understanding of reactions to food and beverages, using different research methods. This group of academic and PhD students will work closely with the new product development department of our company (RND) with the aim of creating, studying and presenting new and modern products of high nutritional value, respecting the local economy, based on local varieties and the strengthening of the circular economy in the ecosystem of the North Aegean. At the same time, it will aim at the strengthening of synergistic cultivationand contract farming, the utilization of by-products of local food producers, as alternative raw materials, the introduction of ecological-innovation and packaging with the creation of such adapted to the upcoming trends of the time.
This project is the most methodical effort to create new products that not only respond to new eating habits, but also operate in the context of the circular economy positively towards the environment.
The future is ahead and with respect for the environment and the society we live in. The best is in store for us, we only have to believe in them!
